Traveling With Babies

One of the main concerns when traveling for new families is the thought of traveling with a baby. Many people say that it is a hard task and will ruin the trip for you, since it is hard to take care of your baby on the trip. With some planning ahead, this trip can be made easier and the problems can be avoided. Here are some tips for you.

  • When booking your flight, there are things you can keep an eye out for that can help your trip run smoother. Look for times where the plane will be less crowded, like weekdays or overnight flights. Flights that are overnight or the "red-eye" flights are good options, as your baby will be more naturally sleepy during this time.
  • Always bring your own feeding bowls and utensils when travelling with baby - many eating establishments do not have cutlery appropriate for an infant's use. A travel high chair is incredibly useful, and means that you can comfortably feed your baby wherever you go.
  • Diaper time can be a hassle when traveling with baby, but it's easier if you're prepared. Have a diaper for each hour of transit time, plus 2 or 3 extras in case of delay. Have a pack of wipes, diaper cream and don't forget to bring along a changing pad - you want to make sure you're baby is protected if you need to change at a road side stop. Disposable changing pads can be very handy during a road trip.
  • Bring Interactive toys which play music or make animal sounds and such plus books or toys making crunching or whisper sounds are popular toys for babies.
  • Dress your baby comfortably for the plane.
  • You can take a stroller with you. This makes it so easy for you to be able to stroll your toddler from gate to gate.
  • Don't skimp when packing water, juice and, especially breast milk or formula. Bring plenty of baby food if your child is eating solid food. You can never tell when you might have a lengthy delay and won't be able to get drinks and food on the plane.

Traveling with Baby doesn't need to be a chaotic memory. Do your best to prepare and get a little advice from people who have traveled with babies before. Plan your vacation realistically to accommodate your baby's needs and all of you can have a great time.
