When you are ready to go on a backpacking trip or you have decided to go camping one thing that you need to bring is clean and safe drinking water, but what if you failed to bring your supply or you run out of clean water? What are you going to do to make sure that you are drinking clean and safe water? There are actually a few ways which you can assure that. And these are some of them:
Filtering
There are a lot and different kinds of filters that are sold in most camping stores. This is in case campers will look for an alternative so that there wouldn’t be a need to bring a lot of drinking water. There are those that are measured 0.1 to 0.4 has the ability to filter bacteria but not viruses. There is a kind of filter called hollow fiber which has the capacity to filter viruses. Another kind of filter is called reverse osmosis which has the capacity to remove both viruses and bacteria. It can also remove salt from se water if you are traveling by sea.
Heat
One fact that you need to remember when you are camping and you are short in water is that germs die instantly when it is subjected to high temperature for a long period of time. When water is boiled for 1 minute or more, it is already safe to drink. If you have no other choice, tap water which is boiled may be a safe option for drinking.
Chemicals
There are powder packs and/or tablets that functions as a water disinfectant. These products can be bought on camping stores. The usual composition of these disinfectants usually is chemicals like chlorine and iodine and other substances that make the water clean and clean. All you need to do is to make sure that you are following the instructions indicated alongside the product. There are times that you may need to wait for a few hours before you can drink the water but that is not usually the case
UV Light
There are certain devices that are capable of giving off amounts of UV light which is very effective when it comes to disinfecting small amounts of water and make it safe to drink. But this would not work on cloudy water since the germs can be shielded by the particles present in the water.
