Treatments for Jet Lag

Adjusting to a new time zone can be very time consuming and usually hinders the activities that you are supposed to do when you are on vacation. Jet lag usually happens when your body’s rhythms are disrupted due to crossing of different time zones, usually definitely different time zones.
Jet lag indications include the following: insomnia, indigestion, disorientation and irritation. These symptoms are usually temporary because jet lag is temporary as well.

Natural Cures for Jet Lag

  1. Melatonin. This is a hormone produced by a gland in the brain called pineal gland. The hormones’ main job is to control the circadian rhythm of the body (body’s internal clock) that is plays an essential role in waking up and sleeping. Taking a tablet of melatonin for three consecutive nights can help your body adjust immediately to the new time zone.
  2. Adjusting your waking time and your sleeping time. This is another strategy in order to avoid jet lag. This means that you have to adjust your bedtime a day or few days before you travel. The adjustment will depend generally on which direction you are headed. For example, if you are going east, you will need to sleep an hour early than your normal sleeping time and wake up an hour early as well. And if you are travelling towards the west, you need to sleep one hour later than your normal bed time and wake up one hour later as well. And as the day of your departure nears, you will add subtract an hour each day.
  3. Homeopathy. This remedy comes in vials or in the forms of pellets. The dosage must be at the minimum because large dosage can cause diseases or conditions. The pellets are so tiny that they are almost undetectable. The most common homeopathic remedy for jet lag is called No Jet Lag.
  4. Valerian. This is a natural herb used as a natural sleeping aid. This is also used to help someone adjust to a new time zone. Valerian, unlike other sleeping aids, cannot cause addiction since it is natural.
  5. Diet adjustment. You need to make sure that you avoid drinking or eating the following: alcohol, coffee. And you must drink plenty of water and you also need to practice eating light meals. A few adjustments in your diet will help you overcome jet lag faster.
