Travel Back In Time: Medieval Markets In Spain

How does it feel like when you enter a city filled with architectures that dates back more than centuries ago still being used today like it was just yesterday? Most people today may not have lived beyond the times in the past where kings and queens rule the lands adorned in the most exquisite clothes for the public to see. Plebeians do wear differently but their clothes, even though it seemed commoner's clothes to them, is already a work of art in these days. Today, you only get to see these clothes either in museums, preserved over the centuries or from tailors whose hobby is to recreate the clothes of medieval times to today's fashion sense.

All of these can still be experienced, although the clothes are just an added flavor to make it feel more like in the medieval times, many villages and towns in Spain hold medieval markets and festivals that are open to both the locals and visitors. The festive medieval occasions in Spain are common during summer which combines culture, history and fun. Sounds exciting, isn't it? This is one of the reasons travelling to Spain is a must for travelers, especially those who love to watch events that took place in the medieval era.

You know that the events have already started when you witness an array of damsels, knights, jongleurs, merchants, troubadours and many characters you see in medieval times are filling the summer streets for many days which transports you back in the Middle Ages. Medieval markets are also present in these festivities that recreates the atmosphere, events and traditions being celebrated in medieval times. Some major events attracts large crowd from locals and visitors so this is a sight to see during the summers.

Generally, or most of the world, events like this one is really popular with the crowds, even amongst those who are not very knowledgeable about history of the middle ages. Most of the locals take part in these festivities with passion. They dress up in costumes according to the period and act out plays of battles and legends. They also add up enjoyment by preparing medieval dishes. Streets are filled with decorations that are standard during those days such as banners, heraldry, etc. and covers the streets with straw. Street entertainment also fills the air with juggles, puppets and music to keep children happy. You can also find falconry exhibitions and jousting tournaments.
