Tourist Places in Italy

Italy, Rome the city where love began. Italy continues to hold its ground of being the fifth most visited country in the whole world. Maybe because Italy has many tourist spot that you could not imagine ever existed. Let us tour around Italy and see its wonder within our grasp.

The top tourist attraction is the Canals of Venice or “The City of Water” which extended along the Grand Canal. Its romantic gondolas and Italian architecture aided in earning this places’ status.

Next in line is the Colosseum located in Rome, the largest, most famous amphitheater in the Roman world. The construction of the colosseum began in 72 AD by Emperor Vespasian of the Flavian dynasty and was finished on 80 AD by his son Titus. It has 80 entrances and can hold up to 50,000 spectators. These spectators can watch any event inside the colosseum without any fear of getting wet because sails called “velarium” protect them from rain and the suns’ rays.

Then we have Santa Maria del Fiore, the most beautiful cathedral and symbol of the city. It took 140 years to complete this masterpiece from 1296 to 1436. The outside surface of the basilica is paved with polychrome marble panels in various shades of pink and green bordered by white. This basilica is one of the largest churches in Italy and even until the modern era. In addition, the dome is the largest even in the world—the biggest brick dome ever constructed.

Have you gone to the greatest medieval square in Europe, the Piazza del Campo? It is renowned for its architectural integrity and beauty as a public space of the historic center of Siena. The wealthiest families of Siena surround the shell shaped piazza where the famous tower Palazzo Pubblico stands. A horse race is held twice a year in the place wherein they lay a thick layer of dirt three times but it only lasts for 90 seconds.

Take a quick visit to Pompeii, the city that was buried with ash and soil when the volcano Vesuvius erupted in August 24, 79 AD. Because of the eruption, the city was preserved even up to this very day. From jars, tables, paintings, and even people were frozen in time. The excavation of the city gave insights as to how people lived two thousand years ago.

Do not forget to freshen up in Positano (Amalfi Coast). A small town located in Amalfi Coast. The area is renowned for its scenic beauty, picturesque towns, rugged terrain, and diversity of people present. Somehow, the city is scattered from top to bottom down a hillside leading to the coast where it is now a popular tourist attraction. On the other hand, you can choose Lake Como (Italian Lake District) known for its water, mountains, fresh air, and good weather. The lake is shaped like an inverted “Y.” The area’s mild climate enables tropical and temperate plants to grow.

After relaxing, you can visit the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The tower was built for 177 years. Because it had a poor foundation the tower was left for almost a century before the next floors were built, that’s why it tilted to the side.
