If you are one of those people that dread travelling any long distances for fear of travel sickness. If you've ever kicked off your holiday being copiously sick into a carrier bag, then you are well aware of the miseries of travel sickness. Well, fear not, here are some very useful tips to help you avoid or prevent travel sickness.

  • Chew a ginger - One good thing that you can do is to chew a ginger candy that you will find in stores near you. Ginger has been proven by a lot of individuals. You can use this before traveling. You can even have ginger candies while you travel. Just make sure that you will not eat too much.
  • You need to eat something -One of the best things that can help you avoid this is to eat something before you travel. This will help you to have enough energy and to provide your brain with enough nutrients. This also helps in filling your stomach and absorbs excessive fluids that you have. Try to eat crackers or lemon candy also.
  • Relaxing - It might be easier said than done, but if you can keep relaxed it usually helps to decrease sickness effects. Is there any way you can take you mind off your sickness - listening to music, reading or looking out of the window, for instance? Alternatively, reclining your seat, keeping still and closing your eyes can help.
  • Well position - It is very important that you position yourself well on your seat. Avoid changing positions too often. You need to focus yourself forward. Try to look at the horizon if possible. You also need to avoid reading books while traveling.
  • Avoid drinking caffeine- Don't drink caffeine for at least 24 hours before the car journey, or on your trip. This includes energy drinks that have a caffeine content. If you usually have a high intake of caffeine you may temporarily suffer with a headache, which you won't want if you're feeling car sick, so consider stopping or reducing caffeine earlier. For children avoid caffeine drinks and fizzy drinks too for at least a few hours before travelling.
