There are two different kinds of festivals in the island of Tenerife, as like with the rest of the Canary Islands. They are those that fall in the summer season and the winter season.

Christmas is treated like a festival in the island during the month of December. Almost every country celebrates Christmas but Tenerife has its own uniqueness to celebrate the yuletide season. Another winter festival is the largest one, Carnival. It is a fake name used to disguise it during the time of Franco's rule because he forbade celebrating winter festivals. The Carnival occurs between the months of February and March, based on their own calendar. Many locals refer to the start of the festival with Shrove Tuesday. The capital's main program of the festival happens during the afternoon of that day until the evening when parade starts to fill up the streets. Another parade occurs at Friday night before the true Carnival occurs. New Year's celebration in the island is celebrated with a bang and after a few minutes from the bells clanging, street parties happen.

The summer season popular festival celebrated throughout the island is the Corpus Cristi. Other festivals of the island depends on the moving of the seasons so no specific dates are Easter and Holy Week. In each municipality that you visit, once you know the names of the festivals, you will notice that the names of the festivals are after patron saints, usually during their birthdates or the day they were canonized by Vatican.
