Spain will need every traveler to follow their local protocols if you want to gain entry within their borders. This is to ensure that every person that comes in the country will experience no mishaps and only enjoy the best moments they have in the country while those exiting will leave no trace that they have cause legal violations. This may sound like it is a very strict protocol but it is pretty much standard anywhere you go, only that the difference is how they have maintained in enforcing their protocols. In Spain, you have to be prepared.

  • Vaccinations against any known illness is not necessary for you to gain entry to Spain however it is your responsibility to take necessary vaccinations updated regularly if you will be planning to be in contact with nature and out of the cities, such as in remote areas. Ask your attending physician for recommended vaccinations for travelling. Spanish authorities have the right to conduct necessary medical examination upon your arrival in order to make sure that your body is not suffering from any known illnesses listed in the International Health Regulations.
  • For documents required to gain entry in Spain, it depends on where you live. If you are a citizen of a country that belongs of the European Union, Liechtenstein, Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland, all you need is either a valid identification card or your passport. If a minor travels using the ID document, it must have a permission letter written by the parents. If your country is not listed in the aforementioned, you are only required to stay within the country for a maximum of ninety days. Some countries require you to have a valid visa to gain entry while others don't. Check out the list of countries or contact the local Spanish embassy for information regarding this.
  • Whatever you take in or out of the country of Spain has no restrictions whatsoever, provided that everything you have is for your own private use. If you are carrying money of euros more than 9,999, this must be declared upon entry in the form. For food that contains ingredients that are sourced from animals are strictly forbidden entry with special exceptions on foods or drinks that are required by medical reasons.

If ever you plan to bring a pet with you, those below three months of age with no vaccinations are not allowed entry.
