Mexico’s Best Cities for Tourist Destinations

One of the world’s most popular destinations is Mexico because of its fascinating attractions that are focused on a historic center including Templo Mayor, Palace of Fine Arts, the Plaza de la Constitucion or Zocalo, the National Palace, Metropolitan Cathedral and Alameda Park.  Mexico is also famous for its tequila, Salma Hayek, Day of the Dead, Corona Beer, Lucha Libre, the Aztecs and the Mayas and drug wars.

Here are the lists of more tourist destinations in Mexico:

  1. Palenque – it has some of the finest architecture and sculptures the Maya ever produced even it is much smaller than some of its Mayan neighbor cities. . Most structures in Palenque date from about 600 AD to 800 AD including the Temple of Inscriptions, the only Mesoamerican pyramid built as a funerary monument.
  2. Chicken Itza – one of Mexico’s most visited tourist destinations. It is also the largest of the Maya cities in Yucatan Peninsula. The most famous landmark of Chicken Itza is the “temple – pyramid of El Castillo”, the other highlights also includes the Great Ballcourt and El Caracol, a circular temple which served as an astronomical observatory.
  3. Guanajato – is best visited during October because of the October’s Festival Cervantino – a cultural extravaganza with ballet folklórico, mariachis, orchestras, Moroccan folk, modern art, and Mexico City punk bands. It is situated in the mountains of the Sierra de Guanajuato. Guanajuato streets and many colorful alleyways spread out in every direction while most of its traffic is served by a network of underground tunnels making it an excellent city for pedestrians.
  4. Puebla – it is a colonial wonder city, packed with cathedrals and a wonderful museum devoted to ancient artifacts, and is far more manageable and laid-back than the size attests. It is also known as the “mini Mexico City”.
  5. Mexico City – the most fascinating city in Mexico. It has a serious scrub-up for its bi-centennial, and now some places like mariachi-filled Plaza Garibaldi are safe enough to be a “Disney version” of its former gritty self. Mexico City has Aztec canals, pyramids, Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo's old studio, and hipster dining in chic eateries of the Condesa and Polanco and other many spots as tourist attractions.
  6. San Miguel de Allende – this town is filled with handicraft shops, botanic gardens, organic farmer restaurants, 17th century cathedrals and lovely guesthouses.

Despite of the many controversies circulating in Mexico about drug wars, there is still some safest place that also has great spots for tourists.
