GERMANY'S BEST TOURIST DESTINATIONS

Germany has gained a higher profile as a travel destination though it remains far less well known or understood by foreigners than some other European countries before the reunification. There are much famous tourist attractions in Germany and that includes best shopping centers, adventure and nature trips.

But if you have no idea where to go in Germany, here are some useful tips that have the most interesting tourist attractions and the most visited among foreigners:

  1. The Cathedral of Cologne – it is one of Germany’s most important architectural monuments. It is also the third tallest cathedral in the world. When Cologne was leveled by bombings in World War II, the Cathedral was the only building that survived. It stand tall in an otherwise flattened city, some people said it was the divine intervention that protects the place.
  2. The Romantic Rhine – it is the most famous section of the Rhine, which runs between from Koblenz to Bingen. The river Rhine carves its way here through steep vineyard-covered hills topped with countless castles and ruins. The river has been an important trade route into central Europe since ancient times and a string of small towns has grown up along the banks.
  3. Neuschwantein, Bavaria – it is the world's most famous castle that is located in the Alps. It is also the most photographed building in Germany. Neuschwantein drews an inspiration for some fairy tale movies such as the Sleeping Beauty. It is not an architect that designed this castle, instead it a theatrical designer that made this castle. Its main attractions are the gaudy artificial grotto, the Throne Room with its giant crown-shaped chandelier, and the lavish Minstrels' Hall.
  4. Weimar – it is a city in Thuringia, in the East of Germany. It has been the site of pilgrimage for the German intelligentsia. Weimar is the also the birthplace of Bauhaus movement, which created a revolution in design, art, and architecture in the early 20th century.
  5. Brandenburg Gate – it symbolizes the reunification of East and West Berlin. It is also the only surviving city gate of Berlin that was built in 18th century.  Brandenburg Gate is the entry to Unter den Linden, the prominent boulevard of linden trees which once led directly to the palace of the Prussian monarchs. It is considered as one of the famous landmark in Europe.
