Getting Sick After Your Trip

The greatest experience every traveler gets when going on a trip overseas is the experience of knowing other cultures and how they differ from how you are used to. It would become the most unforgettable experience you will ever get but sometimes it can be a bit of a trauma when you get sick after you leave your trip and arrive at your home. You have no idea where you got the sickness and just blamed it on getting a virus where you live. Aside from bringing home souvenirs, travelers may bring with them illnesses they did not notice and just got worse after arriving from their trip. These sicknesses are common ones which include upset stomach, head cold or flu. They may feel that common to you but oftentimes when they last too long that they do not go away after a month from arriving your trip, this warrants a visit to your doctor.

Fever is another common ailment and when a traveler has just been to a place that had malaria and developed a fever within the month after they have left, it is advisable that you seek medical attention right away. While most fevers are just common for travelers, malaria needs to be treated immediately since it is considered as medical emergency. Even if you have taken anti malaria treatments before, there is still the chance that you will develop malaria so it is important that your doctor comes into picture here. Most of the malaria cases developed within a month while the rare ones lie dormant within the body for a year longer. When you visit your doctor after you have travelled, even if it was already months ago. Tell them everything that you have done so far such as what you drank and ate during your trip, were you bitten by any animal or bugs or how long you stayed there so that your doctor will know what to do with your current illness.

When you experience persistent diarrhea after your travels, seek medical attention immediately. Most diarrhea cases go away after a day or two but for those that lasts for more than 3 days to 2 weeks, it is vitally important that you get checked right away, preferably by a gastroenterologist. Persistent diarrhea will make you lose nutrients that are necessary for your body and oftentimes caused by a virus that needs to be treated with special drugs prescribed by your doctor.
