Top Five Haunted Places in the World

Doppelgangers. Grim reapers. Beheaded people. Those are not very pleasant to the ear, as they are much more unpleasant (and really creepy) to the eyes and mind. They are present anywhere—in schools, offices, abandoned and occupied buildings, lakes, and woods.

Spirits exist and they are not physically visible to humans anytime. They only appear in some instances such as in photographs, peripheral eye visions, or even in front of somebody for a very short period of time.

Let’s take a look at the top five most haunted places in the world:

Aokigahara, Japan. More popularly known as “Suicide Forest,” Aokigahara is located at the base of Mt. Fuji. There have been incidents of people going through the thick vines and woods but never came out alive, since the place is known as a suicide site. Every year, police discover bodies of hundreds of people who committed suicide in that forest. Rumor has it that spirits lure humans to kill themselves whilst treading through the woods. As well, they say, there was a great famine in Japan in ancient times, and some families would leave other family members in Aokigahara, where they’d die of hunger—and they haunt the forest today.

Diplomat Hotel, Philippines. This creepy abandoned hotel located in Baguio is featured in almost every horror documentary in the Philippines because of the fame it acquired due to various scary stories from people who have experienced the creep in this place. It served as a vacation house but was transformed into a hotel when Diplomat Hotels, Inc. acquired it from the former Dominican priests who owned it. Brave people who visit this place report of sounds of shattered plates, screams, and banging of windows and doors.

Bhangarh Fort, India. Located in Alwar district, Rajasthan, this fort is considered to be one of the scariest places in India. According to one legend, a sorcerer tried to make the princess of Bhangarh fall in love with him by using a potion on her. However, the princess figured out about his plan and she threw the potion against an unstable boulder, which rolled down toward her and killed her. As it rolled nearer to the sorcerer, the latter cursed the town, saying that everyone will die an unnatural death—and then, the boulder crushed him. The survivors of this incident abandoned the place. Today, no one is allowed to spend the night at the fort.

Monte Cristo Mansion, Australia. This house has witnessed deaths in the Crawley family. Mr. Crawley, the husband, died, and with great remorse, his wife locked herself inside the mansion for twenty-three years until she died. Several paranormal activity videos have been taken inside the house.

Island of the Dolls, Mexico. In the district of Xochimilco, an artificial island that belonged to Julian Barrera was haunted by the spirit of a girl who drowned nearby. As a way to appease her, Barrera started to collect dolls and doll parts and hung them on the trees and walls. In 2001, his body was found dead in the spot where he first found the body of the girl who used to haunt him. The dolls are still seen today where he hung them.
