Not really exclusive to Japan but every country has its own unique culture. But when it comes to mentioning Japan, the number of uniqueness this country offers way numbers over a hundred when compared to other countries. It is primarily the reason why travelers who visited here first plans on coming back again or they stay in the country indefinitely.
- Japan is filled with cuteness. The word kawaii is a term commonly used in the country for something cute and its obsession started in the year 1970s during the height of economic growth of the country. It is also around this time when advertising agencies has found a way into the hearts of the customers by overloading almost every product with lovably cute characters. Even their warning signs are filled with cuteness.
- Otaku is a word referred to nerds or fanboys. A number of the Japanese people do not like the image the otaku culture has brought for the country but this subculture is one of the main points of Japan that attracts a lot of foreign travelers, usually otaku themselves.
- You can find the best service in Japan. Their service is always diligent and polite. When you are offered with such amazing service, you cannot help but tip them but this is rude to do so. It is an insult to them if you do so.
- Hosto is a word referred to male hosts which are bizarrely unique. The primary customers these guys get are hostesses.
- The old saying in Japan that still runs deep within their society still works today which is "the nail that sticks out gets hammered down". Majority of the Japanese value their community ties over individualism. It is all about teamwork. Self-serving and showboating tactics are despised while self-sacrifice is highly respected.
- The number of festivals in Japan may be over a thousand and each of them a unique one of its own.
- While in some countries uniforms is mandatory, in Japan it starts when children go to school for the first time, usually from a young age. In a number of professions there is a uniform standard too.
- Anime and manga is uniquely Japan. Every topic you can imagine is covered in this world of literature.
When you find one or two unique culture of Japan that seems disagreeable, you should keep your thoughts for yourself and never impose it on them.
