The Lovely Painted Monasteries

Painted Monasteries are found in the southern part of Bukovina that is north of Romania. Most, but not all are part of the world famous heritage list. They are all found in rural areas and are greatly surrounded with the lovely countryside and farms. Most often, there are picturesque, which are situated beside them. In line with this, it has been established that there are people who have settled to roads that lead to monasteries. Basically, they are made of farms and they have no transportation for the public. Looking around would usually take an hour or two.

Getting Around- Within these areas, transportation for the public is scarce, biking around would be good but renting a car is your best option. The latter will let you explore and see different monasteries accessibly. Give it a day or two and you would surely enjoy what the painted monasteries have in store for you. However, if taking your time while walking around and appreciating the wonderful Romanian countryside, you should try and consider spending your extra time. If you are concerned on where to sleep, that won't be a problem there are rooms and even houses for rent. Rest assured that they have hotels that offer good services for quite reasonable prices.

In getting to the insides of the painted monasteries, you just need to pay for an entrance fee. Moreover, if you want to take pictures, then you should be ready to pay extra. Bear in mind that most of these painted monasteries are currently under renovation. However, visiting is still possible and they're definitely worth it.

Here are some of those very well known painted monasteries:

Dragoman- Its closest city is Suceava. For transportation, there's a bus that you can get on to if you want to go to the city from the monastery. However, it only passes only two times per day. This is in early morning, that's about 7:30AM and in the evening, which is at 9PM. It is advisable to get a cab and you can tell the drivers to use the meter, so you can pay for their standard price. When you arrive, be sure to get the phone number of the cab driver, so you can call if you want to have your way back. The painted monastery here is very nice, though it's not painted on the outside. Surely, you're tired of your long travel, and then you can sleep and just stay there. They will let you stay in a room just beside the monastery. Moreover, you just to pay fees if you want to stay overnight. For your meals or even breakfast if you go overnight, you can buy from the nuns, they make food from local products.

Sucevita- These monasteries are quite surrounded by towers and huge walls, they're found outside. You will surely find the paintings nice and not like other monasteries, this one has a small but interesting museum. Moreover, it has computers where you can find common knowledge about the monasteries; which includes stories that are certainly can't be found in your travel guide. Don't worry, it is also in English. Surely, you will understand each of the local stories.
