Going to parks are fun; joining in festivals are lively and exciting; taking the nightlife is exhilarating but when combined all these and you keep doing it again, there comes a time when think that it is rather boring or tiring that you want to try something new once in a while. Do you like to go on hiking and see different sites that are only viewable if you walk in one of the hiking trails made by the island? Do you like going up mountains to look for places remotely located and completely detached from the city? The village of Masca is the perfect place you are looking for. You will need to walk your way through this small village situated within the mountain, home to about eighty people. This tiny little village is high up at 600 meter latitude of the Teno Mountains that stretches to the northwest of Tenerife. The path to accessing the village was made in the year 1960s. There were even no roads that leads to this village. At the center of Masca you will see a square with their own church. The entire village is surrounded with high mountains and the peak of the mountains is visible from the village center. The forest are filled with cypresses and palm trees while the west part of the village is a slope that tilts about 70 to 75 degree angle with rocks and forests. There is a small farming cultivation of fruits and vegetables in the village including potatoes and wheat. The village has sufficient supply of water plus perfectly green nature. There is another trail in this village which leads down to the beach popular amongst the locals - a beach that faces the Atlantic Ocean. While it is highly recommended to go there, it may not be for people who do not like to hike for three hours.
Today, the village of Masca can be easily accessed by cars through the roadways. Public buses are also provided that are stationed at Santiago del Teide every Mondays to Fridays starting at two in the morning. Another bus is stations in Buenavista del Norte that takes off at four in the morning. A guide can help take you to the village by hiking. Companies in the island also offer shuttle service which takes their guests to the village either by boat or bus. But many tourist recommend visitors of Masca village to take the trail through hiking.
