Staying Vegetarian While Travelling

It is a difficult challenge if you are a traveler and are sticking to your vegetarian diet. You cannot give up travelling either because you know how beneficial it is for you. When you hear that your destination is a pork-dominated city, you start to panic and think about what you should do to keep your vegetarian routine intact and not breaking it. For those starting on the vegetarian spree, they can still break their regimen and return to being vegetarian after travelling but that may not be a good sign for the orthodox vegan.

It will be easier for you to stay vegetarian if you go to places that are famous for them. You will not find it difficult and in fact, you may even find vegetarian recipes to add to your list. Still, you need a guide on how to stay vegetarian while you are travelling.

  • Before departing, you may need to shop for natural food items at food stores or grocery shops so that you can whip up meals that are right for you and you will not find it difficult by the time you arrive at your destination.
  • Look up your destination if there are any places that you can shop for natural food for your consumption. You may also need to look up for restaurants or local food shops that offer vegetarian menu if you are planning on eating out. If you are travelling on business, this may be a bit difficult for you but you can still look up the places that you are bound to go to and see if they offer food that are suited for you.
  • If you are planning to stay longer at your destination, it is necessary that you find a grocery store and food shops that offer ingredients for your vegetarian recipes. Renting a studio with a kitchen is the best option for you so that you can make your own vegetarian meals.
  • If you are out on a long trip such as bus or car ride, pack meals that is enough for the duration of your trip. You should not rely on the food offered by your airline carrier although there is an option where you can request the airline carrier to give you specific vegetarian meals during your flight.

If you are stuck in the airport and need to grab a bite, the safest option would be to go Asian, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern or Mexican type of food.
