Overseas Water And Food Safety Guide For Travelers

Travelers are always open to risk of getting diarrhea, particularly those coming from foreign places far away from their home. There are various reasons why they get diarrhea easily but the common one is coming from either food or water. Diarrhea happens around the world but common amongst travelers going to developing countries. Although there is already a strict regulation against improper preparation of food and water, there are still instances that travelers develop diarrhea. What they have learned at home can be done so when they travel but when inadequate, bad results happen. Washing your hands is not even enough if the food that you are eating is contaminated or not prepared properly. There are also travelers that are allergic to certain kinds of food. So how do travelers prepare against diarrhea or other diseases that is cause by unclean water and food?

What travelers should eat and drink are the following:

  • Food that are freshly cooked and served hot. If you are travelling to places filled with a lot of people every day, the best place that you should be eating at are where most of the locals and travelers flock to, especially when they are filled and their food gets taken out most of the time, especially in a buffet. This is because they will be replaced with a freshly cooked food once one of the food in the menu is already out.
  • If you are fond of eating raw eggs, best avoid it and eat the hard boiled ones, particularly in developing countries.
  • If you like to eat fresh vegetable salad, it is best that you prepare them yourself. The same goes with peeled fruits.
  • Dairy products that have been pasteurized.
  • Carbonated drinks are safer to drink than the ones that are not. At least drink bottled water that are sealed.
  • Hot tea or coffee
  • Ice that are made from disinfected or bottled water
  • Treated water
