Managing Culture Shock

There is some point in time that when you plan to travel and stay in a single place for a long time, you will experience culture shock. Every traveler may have encountered one or two of it but for the immigrants who have stayed long, they have already overcome their culture shock sickness and has known how to address them. This is normal for every traveler because they are on a stage where they are still trying to adapt to the place. The first few days of being in another country is definitely fascinating and inspiring but in more than years, people will start to notice the things that makes them mad. Below are 3 steps to manage culture shock.

  • The first step is to be addressed on the fact about how it can be disheartening for some travelers to find things that are not looking food for them. This is where you concentrate on your perspective power. When you are presented with a situation that is, temporarily unfavorable for you, you have 2 ways to address this - both by letting it empower you or make you lose control and be aggravated with it. Rather than focusing on things that makes you feel mad, why not switch your attention on something that will make you feel empowered? Losing power is not very healthy for you not only emotionally but physically as well. Give power to the things that makes you happy the most.
  • The next step is to feel good. Quite cheesy but it is the truth. You are trying to develop a relationship with the country that you are living in, just like how couples are trying to keep their relationship stable. You will always find the bad times and the good times during your stay. When the negative seems to overpower the positive, it is time for you to stand by and relax. Think more of the good side that you see in the country rather than the bad side in a 5 to 1 ratio where the 5 is the positive things you see over the 1 negative things.
  • You should also learn to cast away your negativity about the place such as doing criticism, being defensive, stonewall or acting in contempt. These 4 things are what makes your life as a traveler very dull and will spark a conflict with the country you are living in.

All in all, avoid negative emotions that will bring your travels to disappointment.
