- Separate Seat for Baby - Purchasing an independent seat for the new born child is always a good option. Though you may be tempted to place the child on your lap, cutting costs may prove to be agonizing later. During turbulence, new born babies are safer in their seats. Also, you may find it tough to eat with the child on your lap having a grab at everything.
- Try and get a night flight- The night time is the best time to travel with your young ones because there is minimum movement during the night time and thus your baby can sleep properly on the flight. It is also better to avoid any journey until the infant turns 4 to 6 weeks of age. Do consult your physician before making any plans for travelling.
- Drinks and foods- Have plenty of fluid to give your baby during the flight and make sure that she is drinking or eating during takeoff and landing. That way you will automatically get her to 'equalize', that is adjust to the changes in air cabin pressure by swallowing.
- Toys - Keep the toddler busy. Have enough age appropriate toys and entertainment to last the entire flight. It's best to put together a program of a variety of things to do. Let the kids get involved in creating a fun program, but don't leave it up to them. They won't bring enough to do, or will bring too much.
- Pack extra nappies - A spare set of clothing for your baby and enough nappies to last you the journey are a definite must, too! In fact, take an extra top for yourself, just in case your baby is sick all over you.
