The building this place is located was first occupied with a spice shop which was bought by Johann Baptist Cameel in the year 1618 naming it Zum Schwarzen Kameel. This place is also known for the Zum Stiebitz, a term referring to the owner which 200 years later opened up a wine tavern to supplement the trade of spices.
