Also, while on board, avoid such things as over eating and drinking. Also avoid contact with cigarette smoke. Motion sickness tablets should also be packed before you leave. Your doctor may recommend any number of immunizations. This will ensure extra protection against contracting some sort of illness.
  • The easiest and most economical way to stop sea sickness is to walk. This is what is meant by getting your sea legs. When you walk around a moving ship the fluid in your inner ear learns the motion of the ship in a controlled way. When you feel sea sickness you just need to walk or stroll everywhere around the ship. The worst thing you can do is taking to your bed. Lying down will make your nausea worse. Once your body becomes accustomed to the motion you will no longer feel ill and will be able to sit and lie down when you want to.

You don't have to buy these at home as they are available on the ship at the purser’s desk where they are usually given out free of charge. Unfortunately these drugs can make some people drowsy which do not make for an exciting cruise experience. So better to use ginger to decrease nausea.
  • Food is such a big attraction on cruises and over-indulgence can be a problem. Be particularly careful about consuming uncooked food such as some seafood varieties. While it can sometimes be hard to resist, being a little prudent during the cruise can save you a whole lot of unnecessary downtime.
