Before Planning Your Trip

No matter how exciting your trip is going to be, there is always this fear of something at the back of your mind. You are not certain as to what exactly is going to happen in your trip but you still pursue your plans on going on a trip with your family. So before you plan your trip, ask yourself these following questions:

  • How your current trip is similar to the trips you had before
  • How different your planned trip will be
  • Which part of the journey is difficult to cope with
  • What your biggest fears are such as language barriers in another country, medical care, flight duration, and many more
  • What makes the children have a difficult time dealing with or what are the ways that will make the trip difficult such as they want their routine or they just have a difficult time staying in one place

Your goal with this list is not to discourage you on your trip but a way to give you a focus on how you should address these problems should they arise during your trip.

The next thing that you should do is to address your fears when you go on your trip. Here are some of the things that you can do to face them:

  • Do a trial trip first such as going to a nice resort that is only less than an hour drive from your home. If your one week plan getaway seems too scary for you, just try one night and see the results.
  • The worst case that is ever going to happen in a family trip is when one of the children gets sick. Even if this is just your first trip with your children, make sure that you have an emergency contact list ready that is completely filled with information about your doctor. You can also write down the contact number of the hospital near where you are going on for a trip. If you are going to a non-English speaking country, at least find a hospital that entertains their patients with the language.

Language is one of the most challenging things you are going to encounter when you plan your trip abroad. You can try to learn a few basic sentences that can get you by or read about how to manage your culture shock before you go on your trip.
