Rainfall is almost non-existent but it falls mainly during winter season around the months between November and March which averages 12 cm each year. Rain is more common in Al Ain's Oasis City which is the second largest city of the emirate and this is due to its location near the Hajar Mountains.
The temperatures of the land range low from around 13 degrees Celsius during nights in the winter season while it goes high up to 42 degrees Celsius during the summer. The best time to visit Abu Dhabi would be the cooler months from November up to April in which temperatures during the day reaches 24 degrees Celsius while it goes low to 13 degrees Celsius during night.
All year round lightweight summer clothes are worn by both the visitors and the locals but a little bit warmer clothes are required to wear during the winter season. When you visit hotels, cinemas or malls, it is best to bring some sort of sweater or jacket to wear as most of these establishments have their air conditioning at full blast, to compensate for the hot weather during the summer months. Throughout the Middle East, UAE is fairly liberal to visitors regarding dress codes but most visitors pay special attention to dress code and has respect for the local customs. Although wearing tight or short clothing is acceptable by the local government, it is mostly unwelcome by the locals as it will attract a lot of attention. Resort facilities, health clubs and malls widely accepts such fashion although if you visit government offices it is best advised that you cover your legs and shoulders. This should also be observed during Ramadan.
Visitors can freely wear the national dress worn by the Emiratis. Men wear the kandura which is a full length garment up to the toes worn with red or white checkered headdress, the ghutra. The ghutra is secured with agal or black cord. Women wear the abaya which is a loose and long black robe worn over normal clothes with sheyla or headscarf.
