A Journey to Australia’s open ocean –Barrier Reef

A voyage is a course of passage or travel, exclusively a long ride by water to a distant place. Sometimes, it is enjoyable and full of adventure but sometimes awful.  It is indeed, a breath taking experience when there was sea, sky and nothing else surrounds you but nature. This is true when I also had a journey to the Municipality of Kalayaan, Palawan, Philippines. The island municipality will be reached by a navy boat around 2-3 days considering harsh weather conditions. Well anyway, this is only one of my experiences because I had so many travels within the island of Palawan.

Journey to Australia’s open ocean with a 220km distance in four directions was such a great challenge. By travelling overnight into a definite destination (e.g. A Barrier Reef) will resulted to just a sky above and ocean around you – nothing else.  This situation is very different compared to the crowd in a popular day tours in common natural attractions. Of course, you will miss them as tour progresses. Not only a massive ecosystem with 2,300km long, how does that sound for you? The place was attracting spectators but also an all-day diving that showcases the natural wonders of coral reefs and fishes that thriving in that area. In addition, another attraction is the Lizard Island where named by the popular Captain Cook, obviously owed its name due to its large number of its population in the area.

Not only the locals were attracted by the enchanting powers by the Lizard Island but also from different parts of the world with wide range of cultures and personal backgrounds such as, Chinese students, German visitor, and a free diver. In this kind of visit, diving is the most common activity enjoyed by the visitors. To make it more interesting and enjoyable, each excursion that they have explored is new section each day. Various types of attractions greeted them like clownfish, ribbontail rays and many more.

Minke Dwarf Whales – the whales migrate to the area between June and July to mate and calve in the warmer reef waters and schools of fishes(e.g. Schooling trevally)in different variety populated the reef. Barrier Reef is the world's largest coral reef system composes  of around 2,900 individual reefsand hundreds (900) of islands stretching for over 2.3 kilometers (1,400 mi) over an area of roughly 344,400 square kilometers. The ridge is located in the Coral Sea, off the coastline of Queensland, Australia. This world treasure is can be seen from outer space and is the world's biggest single structure made by existing organisms. It supports a wide range of life and was selected as a World Heritage Site in 1981 and labeled by CNN as one of the seven natural wonders of the world.

All these, the journey to Australia’s open ocean – The Barrier Reef lifts spirit of freedom to those visited the place. However, visitors/tourists must have familiar or had experience in using diving gears to minimize/ avoid untoward incidence. Based on the climate / seasons prediction all year round, tourists must be aware only that cyclone seasons lasts November until May. The rainy season starts in December and stops at the month of February. But you can still get a clear view of the area, you may expect warmer water and low winds. In peak season, you can expect the places to be dry which usually starts at June until the month of October.  While winter season starts in the month of June up to month of August. You may experience cooler air and temperatures of their water. Indeed, if the above information/s considered, the travel will be a refreshing experience.
